Work Location: ​1701 Northwind Parkway Hobart, IN 46342​                                            
Hours: 7am - 3:30pm, with expected additional hours including weekends and evenings
Starting Pay: At least $30 per hour, based on experience and gained skills. 
 

What we are looking for: 
The Bindery / Finishing Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, coordination, and performance of bindery and finishing operations. This position provides leadership and direction to production employees while ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established production schedules, quality standards, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and customer requirements. 

The Supervisor is responsible for effectively managing labor, equipment, materials, workflow, and production priorities to achieve departmental objectives. This position works collaboratively with Production, Prepress, Pressroom, Shipping/Receiving, and other departments to maintain efficient workflow and meet customer commitments. 


What you will be doing: 

  • Supervise, coordinate, and direct daily bindery and finishing operations, including staffing, job assignments, workflow, and production priorities. 
  • Review production schedules, job tickets, specifications, and customer requirements to ensure work is properly planned and completed according to established deadlines. 
  • Assign employees to equipment and production areas based on workload, production priorities, employee skill levels, and operational requirements. 
  • Monitor departmental workload and capacity and proactively identify potential bottlenecks, staffing concerns, equipment limitations, or scheduling conflicts. 
  • Ensure employees understand job specifications, work instructions, samples, quality requirements, and finishing expectations prior to beginning production. 
  • Monitor work throughout the production process to ensure compliance with established quality standards and customer specifications. 
  • Ensure completed work is properly inspected and verified before being transferred to the next production operation or department. 
  • Monitor productivity, labor utilization, equipment utilization, waste, rework, and downtime and take appropriate action when performance does not meet established expectations. 
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve workflow, productivity, quality, safety, and operational efficiency. 
  • Minimize unnecessary material handling, waste, rework, and production delays through effective planning and supervision. 
  • Train, coach, and develop employees in equipment operation, finishing processes, quality requirements, SOPs, and safe work practices. 
  • Promote cross-training to increase employee capabilities, departmental flexibility, and operational coverage. 
  • Establish clear performance expectations and provide employees with timely coaching and feedback. 
  • Address employee performance, attendance, quality, safety, and behavioral concerns in accordance with company policies and procedures. 
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and respectful workplace behavior. 
  • Ensure production equipment is operated safely and correctly in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company procedures. 
  • Monitor equipment condition and coordinate preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs as necessary. 
  • Promptly communicate equipment downtime or other operational issues that may affect production schedules or customer commitments. 
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, machine guarding requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and other applicable workplace safety practices. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with established housekeeping standards. 
  • Ensure materials, tools, supplies, and work-in-process are properly identified, staged, stored, and controlled. 
  • Communicate production status, delays, quality concerns, staffing needs, and resource requirements to Operations leadership and other affected departments. 
  • Participate in production meetings and provide accurate information regarding departmental workload, capacity, staffing, equipment status, and potential risks. 
  • Maintain required production records, employee documentation, departmental reports, and other records as assigned. 
  • Support company continuous improvement initiatives and operational objectives. 
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Who you are: 
 

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in bindery, finishing, commercial printing, large-format printing, manufacturing, or a related production environment preferred. 
  • Minimum of two (2) years of previous supervisory, lead, or team leadership in a manufacturing or production environment preferred experience. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of bindery and finishing processes, production equipment, materials, workflow, and quality requirements. 
  • Demonstrated experience planning and coordinating labor, equipment, and production resources to meet established schedules. 
  • Experience reading and interpreting job tickets, work instructions, production schedules, specifications, measurements, and customer requirements. 
  • Experience with production scheduling, workflow management, manufacturing, or related production systems preferred. 
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn company-specific production and workflow systems. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are preferred but not required. 
  • Additional technical training or certifications related to printing, bindery/finishing operations, manufacturing, leadership, equipment maintenance, or workplace safety are preferred. 
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential required. 
  • Associate degree in Printing Technology, Graphic Communications, Manufacturing, Operations Management, Business Management, or a related field preferred. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes, this position is responsible for the direct supervision of assigned Bindery and Finishing employees.

Work Environment: Position operates in a regulated manufacturing print/mail production facility   

Physical Demands:   

  • Stand and walk for up to 12 hours, with frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching 
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds 
  • Perform repetitive motions in a fast-paced production environment 

Security Clearance: Amsive is a Federal Contractor, and this position may require government security clearance for certain projects.
